Welcome to One Car Garage, in which I choose a manufacturer, and you decide one single vehicle that they make or made (no matter how old, no matter how exclusive) to live with for the rest of your life. This is your only vehicle, and all expenses are paid for, including price of entry, insurance, gas, etc.

Lately we’ve been hopping around from luxury marque to luxury marque, with our last stop being !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Today we are going to continue that trend by heading over to Germany to choose from the Mercedes-Benz stable.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Mercedes has quite a few significant models that I find appealing for a variety of reasons, but there is one vehicle in particular that really gets me going. That being the rather limited R63 AMG. It’s a minivan, yes, but it also has a 6.2 litre V8 pushing out 503 horsepower and 465 pound feet of the twisty stuff. I know it’s a pig, but this people carrier is limited to 155 miles per hour. That means it can get along faster than that. This thing just sounds like way too much fun at stoplights. I can’t wait to scare the fecal matter out of the young’ns.

Update 1: Will repost when Kinja calms the fuck down.
Update 2: Reposting now that Kinja's bitchfit has subsided.

CLK-GTR, because I love to be totally impractical, and as far as performance MBs go it does not get much better than this.

Kinja'd!!!

I'd have to go with the 300SEL 6.3 - full pneumatic suspension, plenty of power, great interior - and that was back when MB knew how to make electrical components that wouldn't fail (having disassembled interior parts on a W108 before, the quality of the components is firsthand knowledge for me). The hazard knob may have been made of plastic, but I'm not sure there was any plastic anywhere else on the car...

well said, you can take almost anything apart and fix it. Never had a 6.3, but the 4.5 was no slouch either. The diesel I had was a diggity dog but never died, rust claimed that one. Great chassis

Well, let's see. If it's my only vehicle, I'd want something that could handle in the snow, so 4MATIC is a good investment. Usually, there are just one or two people in my car, but I'd like to have some extra space in case I need to carry occasional friends/relatives/coworkers. So a large coupe would work nicely.

Perfect compromise? The CL550 4MATIC.

I'm with you, in the R63 AMG.

Because who WOULDN'T want to be able to take the whole extended family along on a warp-speed autobahn cruise... or just stoplight to stoplight?

Kinja'd!!!

Some (DeMuro) might argue the E63 AMG Estate does the same, but I disagree. This seats 6 in cross-continental comfort, while the E63 (IIRC) seats 2 in comfort, three in less comfort in the second row, and two in no comfort in the wayback. Nope, R-class is the S-class wagon.
